The Chemical Society of Japan

In 1998 the CSJ organized the Special Committee for Environment and Chemistry chaired by Makoto Misono of Kogakuin University. It was renamed two years later as the Environment and Safety Promotion Committee.
The Committee has examined how chemists and chemical engineers should strive to solve environmental and safety issues and the actions the CSJ should take as the core organization. The results of recommendations in the Committees gave birth to the Environmental Charter '99, with Basic Policies and the Five-Year Action Plan.
