Among the variety of educational activities carried out for
years within each of the seven Branch Councils, those of the Kanto Branch, which is the
largest with roughly half of the total CSJ membership, are outlined below.
Under
cosponsorship of the National Science Museum, the Branch Council holds three
different participatory experiment courses. The first is the "Joyful Chemistry
Experiment Lab" for 10 to 15 year old pupils. Originated in 1983, it marked its
161st session in January 2002. The second is the "Chemistry Experiment Course
for High School Students." Started in 1995, it held its 42nd session in
2002.The third is for chemistry teachers. Dating back to 1986, it held its
112th session in 2002.
Additionally, once each year, the Kanto Branch Council
organizes the lecture session "Invitation to Chemistry," the Chemical Education
Seminar for teachers, the Chemical Education Forum for teachers, the High-School
Student Research Presentation Session, the Workshop of Chemistry Experiments for
teachers, and the University Open House (of 14 universities in 2002).
